Kelly and Milton met in early 2021 at a birthday party for one of their mutual friends. It was a dance event and they had their first dance that night. Being demanding dancers and being some of the best dancers there, they proceeded to dance quite a few more songs as the night went on. “It’s late; let me walk you to your car,” Milton said to Kelly at the end of the night, and as they said good bye once she was safe at her vehicle, they actually never exchanged information.

It was in the following days, when an algorithm of a social media site suggested a ‘friendship’ to Milton (a member he could recognize as being Kelly), that it seemed that the universe could be conspiring to bring them together. Not thinking much of it and remembering the good dances and great time they had, a friend request was sent and they linked up. They soon began talking on the phone and had lengthy conversations about a variety of topics, before meeting in person once again.

A coffee date turned into another coffee date, all while answering questions from a questionnaire that Kelly had brought up as a conversation starter. Clever idea! They soon decided to take a day excursion to Mexico and visit Ensenada, a few Valle De Guadalupe Wineries, Puerto Nuevo, and perhaps go dancing again. “By the way, I selected a place for breakfast near Ensenada,” Kelly shared as they embarked on their trip. Milton did not know she actually had a whole itinerary of restaurants they would visit on that trip. The spirit for adventure was mutual and they had a great time together.

Milton and Kelly became a couple on that trip.

STRENGTHENING THE RELATIONSHIP

Kelly, who maintains a strong bond with her parents, began speaking about Milton to them and they became anxious to meet him after it was clear that their relationship was serious. “I hope he is a good talker and likes cats,” Kelly’s Mom pleaded as she prepared to meet Milton for the first time. Kelly gave her Mom nothing but assurances. 🙂

Milton was delighted to meet the Masons at one of their favorite Indian cuisine restaurants in Corona Del Mar. They shared a delicious meal and the night was filled with great conversation, a sincere inquisitive interest in each other, shared life stories, laughter, and fun. Certainly, good people are people that good people like! This was a great continuation to a solid foundation that Kelly and Milton had already given to their relationship.

As time passed, it was Kelly’s turn to meet Milton’s daughter, Adaya, and mother, Amanda. As can be expected, Kelly made great impressions on both of them and her tender and light-hearted personality has brought her very close to Adaya, who considers her ‘one of her favorite adults.’ Moreover, her strong culinary aptitude and love for great foods have impressed Amanda very much, who is a great cook in her own right.

Eventually, social gatherings were organized and both sides got to meet and know each other. Holidays, birthdays, and special occasions were perfect motives to plan get-togethers amongst family and friends, and this has served to strengthen Kelly and Milton’s relationship. In addition, golf is a shared hobby of Kelly’s dad, Albert, and Milton, and they go on frequent golf outings at beautiful southern California golf courses. They even competed in a golf tournament together and their game continues to improve!

Truly, the sense of family, friendship, and unity has developed positively as a byproduct of the healthy relationship between Kelly and Milton. This is setting a foundation that is very important for both of them, as they hold strong family values, are family-driven, and care about creating community with loved ones. Even Chloe, Kelly’s family’s cat, approves of the relationship and now even prefers Milton any time he is around; she makes sure to come out to say hi at the sound of his voice and even hisses at Kelly when she gets close. 😮

In a society where distance and isolation seems to be becoming a norm, family is ever more important and the cure to many ailments, as was well stated by George Bernard Shaw, “A happy family is but an earlier heaven.”

Milton and Kelly became engaged in mid-2022 and are happy to be getting married on April 8, 2023.
